Krisp-Pak Ready to East Hydro-Cooled Fresh Spinach was voluntarily recalled.  The 10-ounce package provided the following information on the bag:  Best Enjoyed By dates of 19 JUN 10 through 27 JUN 10. The items were taken from the Farm Fresh retail store in Elizabeth City by state inspectors.  Other names that the product was sold by were: Lancaster Fresh, Giant, and America’s Choice.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide in wholesale and retail stores.

FSIS was notified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that various ready-to-eat deli meat products subject to recall in Canada may have been exported to the United States. Recently, a problem was discovered through FSIS microbiological testing of imported product from Canadian Establishment 665, which resulted in a positive sample for Listeria monocytogenes and two FSIS recalls dated May 4 and 5, 2010. FSIS and Canada have received no reports of illnesses as result of consumption of products subject to this alert. Anyone with signs or symptoms of foodborne illness should contact a physician. FSIS will continue to provide information as it becomes available, including information about any related recall activity.

Mt. Vikos Manouri cheese was distributed nationwide to customers for the retail and food service markets. The company has notified their customers and has pulled the product from retail stores and the food service market.

The company determined through independent laboratory testing that one lot (Best Before: DEC-11-2010, Lot: 222418) of Mt. Vikos Manouri cheese, 4 oz, which was distributed to the marketplace, has been confirmed positive for Listeria monocytogenes. However, as precaution the company is recalling all Best By Dates for both items that are currently in the marketplace. Mt. Vikos is working with the FDA to conduct this recall.

• Various sizes of whole or half ham packages of “KOWALSKI’S Markets, FULLY COOKED, SMOKED HAM, Naturally Smoked with Hardwoods, KEEP REFRIGERATED.” Each package bears a freeze by date “FREEZE BY 05/14/10″ as well as the establishment number “Est. 21207″ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The recalled ham was produced on March 12, 2010, and distributed to retail establishments in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. This public health alert was initiated after positive test results and an investigation by CFIA in response to a listeriosis illness outbreak. At this time, no confirmed linkage has been made between the products subject to recall and the reported illnesses. This is an ongoing investigation and as more information becomes available, FSIS may proceed with a recall action.Implicated products produced by Siena Foods LTD, a Toronto, Ontario, establishment, include, but are not limited to, “Cacciatore Salami, Mild,” “Coppa,” “Prosciuttini,” “Prosciuttini Hot,” and “Prosciutto Cotto.” The individually wrapped products have variable weights and a “Best Before” date through June 22, 2010, as well as the establishment number “Est. 212″ inside the CFIA mark of inspection. However, the original brand and/or best before dates may not have been transferred at the deli counters to consumer packages. Persons who may have purchased any of these products and do not know original brand and code are advised to check with their retailer or supplier to determine if they have the affected product.
